SOLD – Pair of elm burl lamps by G.H.Joué, ca 1970

Description

What I like

First of all, I like the very particular shape of these two rectangular plates with bevelled angles, placed in a slight staggered pattern, which give visual dynamism and great originality to each of these lamps: the interplay of planes and volumes is all the more interesting when magnified by a pair of lamps.

On the other hand, what elegance is this choice of elm burl, just enlivened by these golden bands which animate their face, and by this rounded stem, also golden, which brings them together.

Finally, I like the fact that it is a pair, which helps to balance a room, to respect symmetry.

We are indeed in the 1970s or the beginning of the 1980s, by this material, the elm burl, brought up to date, and by the preciousness of the assembly, the sense of composition, geometric certainly but offbeat, with poetry in this discrepancy.

Mix & Match

This pair of lamps is both classic and fully of its time, the 1970s.

The rigor of its design and the preciousness of the materials used open wide the doors of classic interiors, with antique inlaid or gilded furniture, without complex! The elm burl, widely used in the 1930s, also allowed him to enter Art Deco universes. In any case, its refined sobriety allows it to rub shoulders with both classic creations from the 1960s, such as the living room by Borge and Jensen in waxed oak, and refined furniture such as the Orsay living room by Gae Aulenti. Of course, it will be able to light up the patinated brown leather of the Kroken armchairs, wood calling for wood; it will be perfect for a contemporary interior to which you want to give a precious touch.

The designer

We do not know if the G.H. Joué brand used external designers or if there was an in-house designer.

The editor

G.H. Joué has put its mark on a few lamps, on desk sets, but has clearly opted for creations of good quality, with a classic design but integrating the spirit of the times, as in the case of our lamps.
