What I like

I like the idea of having the model of a monumental project by a great sculptor today: the city of Paris even gave its name to a street in the twelfth arrondissement. In addition, this model comes from the collection of Michel Andrault, the famous architect who designed the Palais Omnisport de Bercy (Accor-Arena), who called on Yvette Vincent-Alleaume for some of his architectural projects, particularly in Evry.

So, an excellent provenance for this model representative of his work mixing various materials, very joyful but very structured.

I like the fact of presenting a unique piece, by an artist whose notoriety can only grow.

Mix & Match

This model is a work of art that is a kind of relief painting. It corresponds to the activity of Yvette Vincent-Alleaume in the 1980s. With its sculptural side, it fills the space: its chromaticism awakened by the orange, allows it to confront, among other modern and contemporary paintings, both antique furniture, eighteenth and nineteenth century, as well as more recent furniture.

Perhaps it will awaken the taut lines and the blond waxed oak of Jensen & Sonner’s Danish salon, so typical of Danish reconstruction art. But its color will also allow it to play  with the large  red and white Space Age swivel chairs, or on the contrary with the immaculate white of Gae Aulenti’s Orsay ensemble, from the same years of creation, or the important white console of the 1980s.

The creator

Born in Annecy in 1927 and died in Paris in 2011, Yvette Vincent-Alleaume graduated from the École nationale supérieure des Arts décoratifs et des Beaux-arts de Paris (fresco and engraving). In the 70s, she participated in major urban projects, notably with the associated architects Andrault-Parat. Thus she created a fountain rue des Amandiers (20th), a dragon alley in Évry, a whale ground in Le Havre, a wall of water in Hérouville Saint-Clair, a fountain in Annecy, or a monumental fresco carved in Malakoff. It draws its inspiration from the history and heritage of ancient civilizations. A photographer, she has published on Mali, Yemen, Afghanistan and Nepal. Sculptor, creator of objects and jewelry, she used all kinds of materials (mosaic, brick, ceramics, slate, granite, steel) before turning to concrete.

In 1977, she made a sculpture for the gendarmerie of Drancy under the artistic 1%. In this context, she also created in 1975 for the polyvalent high school Marcellin Berhelot de Pantin a sculpture in collaboration with Bernard Alleaume.

The City of Paris gave its name to a square in the twelfth arrondissement, for which it created a 20-meter-long wall in the courtyard of the Montempoivre school  in concrete and mosaic.

Yvette Vincent-Alleaume has never been the artist of a single material. She used them all during her long artistic career in France and abroad: mosaic, brick, ceramics, slate, river pebbles, granite, terracotta, steel, before turning to concrete, to which other materials complement.

His work reveals stylized characters or animals, according to the imagination of the spectator. It can sometimes also be totally abstract.
