What I like

I like the sobriety of the efficient and refined design of this console, the accuracy of the two vertical rectangles associated with the assertive horizontality of the two crosspieces, the rarity of the narrow half-moon shape. All this makes this console an interesting piece of furniture, undoubtedly unique. The marked geometry of this realization anchors this console well in the 1980s.

I like the fact that it is most likely a piece of furniture to order, with extraordinary dimensions: what a joy to own a rare piece of furniture, which you will not see in all your friends!

Its color makes this console light despite its imposing dimensions; The small skates on which it rests practically levitate it, in any case take it off the ground. Its shallow depth allows it to be used even in fairly narrow rooms. One can also choose to associate it with a larger rectangular glass top, which would add to its monumentality.

Technique

Large console in white lacquered metal of square section and glass, the base formed by two hollowed out rectangles, small skates raising them from the ground, on which rests two parallel crosspieces hosting the half-moon glass top.

Around 1980.

Scratches and missing paint.

Mix & Match

This large console deserves a large space to display all its monumentality. She will be in good company with important furniture, but not necessarily from the same period. If it is true that a pair of small Louis XVI medallions will be a little lost next to her, why not add  the pair of large Space Age swivel chairs  : their rounded shape also assertive, their size, their bright colors will be a happy contrast with the lines of this large console rather straight. But you can also try to marry it with armchairs with large backs from the Louis XIII or Louis XIV period: they just have to be wide and high enough not to be cannibalized by our large piece of furniture!

Above her, I would gladly hang a tapestry.  Enrique Broglia’sComposicion metalica would play on the different colors of metal, painted or coppery, and its range of beige and brown would be illuminated by the white of this console.  But we can put a large old painting on top: the console will be discreet and leave the first place to the work of art.

The creator

The anonymous creator of this large console has surely seen the achievements of the great designers of the 1980s such as Gae Aulenti or Jean-Michel Wilmotte: he chose to create a very architectural and minimalist piece of furniture, whose details (the small skates in particular) make all the refinement. His pencil, just right, has created a piece of furniture probably unique, as its dimensions are unusual, but a balanced piece of furniture.

The publisher

Its very specific dimensions sign the rarity of this console, probably a control cabinet.
