I love the unique piece aspect of this sculpture: we are indeed facing a work of art, the work of the mind, of an artist with a certain notoriety.
I like the joyful, playful side of the assembly of these various wooden elements, which make up a volume with strong indentations, but whose mass is balanced, perched in height, with its high arrows and very important horizontals and stabilized by the base.
I love the color, very controlled, of this sculpture, with its dominant blue awakened by these touches of red, green and yellow.
I love the poetry of this sculpture, very studied by its coloring: from a heterogeneous but balanced assembly, we arrive at an extremely refined painting-sculpture

The artist
Fernand Rolland was born in Auxerre on February 17, 1920. He moved into the outbuildings of the Château du Tremblay, his family’s former second home, after World War II. After brief studies of plastic art and a food career as an official, postman, farm worker and poultry merchant, he ended up trying to make a living from his pen and his painting. He also leaves a number of sculptures, based on assemblage and polychromy.In 1956, Jean-Louis Vetter joined him at Tremblay. The sculptor and the painter then deploy all their energy to introduce contemporary art to a wider audience than the handful of initiates who were interested in it at the time. Fernand Rolland leaves behind an eclectic work ranging from poetry to paintings-collages and sculptures-strong assemblages in color.He received a large number of prizes for his poetry, was often exhibited at the Center Régional d’Art Contemporain in Yonne, and in 2001 was entitled to a major retrospective at the Musée Saint Germain d´Auxerre. He donated his works to the General Council of Yonne, and part of them is on display at the Center Régional d’Art Contemporain du Tremblay.He died in 2004.
