Michel Andrault, Bouddha statuette
Description
What I like
I like this Buddha statuette for its very refined side, because of its flat shape and the refined and precise cut of its contours. The fact that there are two plates, one polished and one brute, drawing a pagodon silhouette, and this cutout inside drawing a much more precise but still stylized Buddha, is a sculptor’s find of the years 1970-1980. One can think of Roy Adzak’s work on Buddha, especially with the Daum house.
I like the fact that it is a model, for a monumental work imagined by one of the greatest French architects, who has always called on sculptors, such as Singer or Philolaos, for these architectural projects.
Technique
Michel ANDRAULT (1926-2020)
Bronze Buddha statuette formed by two plates, one of which is with raw patina and the other polished, whose outline draws a pagoda, these openwork plates of a precise but stylized standing Buddha motif, in which the same shape is embedded in polished bronze but positive.
On a small cardboard base.
Dimensions and weight
Height: 19.2 cm- Width: 11.7 cm- Depth: 1 cm (the base is 5 cm deep)
Mix & Match
It is a sculpture, that is to say a work of art, precious by its material and its small size, reminiscent of the statuettes made in the Renaissance for the cabinets of amateurs. As a result, it can be placed on a Louis XV chest of drawers, a Louis XVI desk, but also in a more modern universe.
Why not put it on the large desk of the Bank of France whose walnut it will shimmer? But also to put it on the coffee table of Julien de Covemaeker to raise the austere abstract decor: it is true that black and gold go well together.
Its typical shape of the 70s and 80s also allows it to illuminate the white table of Gae Aulenti or the German coffee table with orange ceramic tiles, from the same period.
