Floor lamp with 3 spots in orange laquered metal and chrome, Italy, circa 1970
Description
What I like
This floor lamp provides a clear light, which can be directed towards various things or objects to be illuminated; The fact that one or more spots can be switched on creates a very useful modularity: one switches from a Giorno lighting to a single beam.
I like the orange color of the base and spots, which blends perfectly with the beautiful quality chrome of the stem and other elements: this color is for me typical of the optimism of the 1970s. The fairly classic type of three-spot floor lamp is transfigured by these colors and the quality of the workmanship. It is a fine example of the creativity of Italian designers of the 70s.

Mix & Match
The designer of this floor lamp has managed to rethink the lighting to best fulfill its function: we have a very sober floor lamp by its shape, extremely modular, which can illuminate one or more points. Only its color denotes great originality. This allows our luminaire to fit anywhere.
Of course, it will have a place of choice near the large red and white Space Age swivel chairs or near Giancarlo Piretti’s Alky armchairs, raspberry crushed: the various colors will be exalted. But it can also make more classic furniture, such as Borge Jensen & Sonner’s oak living room set, less wise. It will also be extremely useful to illuminate Enrique Broglia’s “Composicion metalica” tapestry of the 1970s.
But the sobriety of his line allows him to live next to Louis XVI or Empire mahogany armchairs, awakening these classic furniture. In fact, it slips everywhere successfully.

The creator
The anonymous creator of this floor lamp has refined and improved the concept of floor lamp: first, he chooses to equip it with three spots, to illuminate one or more places; On the other hand, it uses extremely refined shapes: the circle of the base responds to the simple cylinders of the three spots, mounted on a simple chrome rod. Finally, he adds a very bright note of color, this archetypal orange of the 1970s.
Or how to make a basic object an icon of its time!
The publisher
The very particular system of the switch, allowing to light one, two or three spots, militates for an Italian origin. The 1960s and 1970s saw the emergence of a whole network of small and medium-sized enterprises in northern Italy, which understood the value of integrating creativity and design into their production process: thus developed an entire Italian design industry, concerned with innovation and quality, which exported its production all over the world.
