Carved mahogany daybed, circa 1830
Description
What I like
I like this day bed because of its relatively small size, which allows it to fit into any interior. On the other hand, the sculpture work on the feet and the bedside tables is very fine and brightens up the soberly molded panels.
The quality of the sculpture and the balance of our furniture are reminiscent of the achievements of the Jacob dynasty, particularly Georges-Alphonse Jacob-Desmalter, its last representative, who took over the family company in 1825 and worked for the furniture storage of the Crown under Charles X and Louis Philippe.
This piece of furniture is very comfortable, and made modern by the choice of a simple woolen material but in a tan color: we are far from the Empire style silks associated with this type of furniture!
Place this chaise longue near a fire in a fireplace: the brilliance of the sparks will bounce from the auburn color of the mahogany to the fiery orange of the woolen cloth: what a beautiful atmosphere!
Lie down on this long mattress, your back propped up by the bedside, your legs stretched out, a book or a drink in your hand: did you say comfort?

Mix & Match
Our day bed has many advantages: its reasonable size without being cramped allows it to confront creations from all centuries. IN fact, it can be inserted into an ancient universe; but the elegance of its design and its sober decor also allows it to sit alongside modern furniture from the 1960s like our G10 armchairs by Pierre Guariche, in particular those also covered with a woolen cloth. And the fiery color of the covering of our chaise longue can even be developed by the orange fabric of our 1970 armchairs in white lacquered metal: in both cases, an economy of means and a certainty of design, without forgetting the comfort!
I would happily see the Lodovico Acerbis bar table in chrome and brushed metal and smoked glass reflecting the curves and straight lines of our seat.
On the walls, we will have the choice between a 19th century work, the Breton du pays de Quimper by Alexandre Marie Colin, or the Diptych by Charles Piquois, alternating its soft colors in its hypnotic hieroglyphs!
The Dijkstra floor lamp in cetadon ceramic and its high lampshade will also add a touch of refinement.

The designer
The design of this piece of furniture is balanced and refined, in an elegant interpretation of an iconic piece of furniture from the beginning of the 19th century: the méridienne-day bed. Our designer is at least an interesting interpreter of models dating from the Empire, revisited by the Restauration period.
The editor
This piece of furniture may have been manufactured by the company of Georges-Alphonse Jacob Dit Jacob-Desmalter (1799 – 1870). He had a lot of talent, a student of Percier, he drew his productions with conscience and meticulousness, of which he took care of the ornamental decoration. The finesse of the sculpture, the quality of the design of our chaise longue, with the alternation of simple panels letting the mahogany play and precisely distributed windings in any case suggests a talented designer and a quality creation.
