Coffee table forming a bar manufactured by the Italian company Domustil, circa 1970
Description
What I like
I love this coffee table for the beauty of the materials used, typical of both the 1970s and the furniture by Domustil: this black lacquered wood which reveals its grain, this steel which plays with the smoked glass. There is an extreme refinement there, as only the high-end Italian design of that era could create!
On the other hand, the design of this table is a marvel, comparable to a sculpture: the two cylinders separated by this shuttle motif, floating between the upper and lower plates are a marvel of geometric volumes typical of sculptures from the 1970s!
Finally, I like the versatile side of this coffee table: by rotating the smoked glass top, the two cylinders transform into a bar, very clever, with these half-height shelves for storing glasses and these white plastic trays , washable, suitable for bottles!
In short, I am particularly admiring of the inventiveness and attention to every detail shown by Domustil!

Rectangular coffee table forming a bar, composed of a rectangular base in black lacquered pine veneer with two side bands and two steel edges, on which are placed two cylinders separated by a steel diamond section element; above, a smoked glass top with rounded corners pivots to reveal the two cavities formed by the two cylinders, accommodating a mid-height semi-circular shelf for glasses, and a round white plastic top for bottles.
Circa 1970.
Scratches and a tiny shock without loss of material at an angle of the glass top, light wear due to use, very small lack of veneer.

Mix & Match
This coffee table forming a dry bar by Domustil is indeed very typical of the 1970s but is high decoration by the refinement of its design and the quality of its materials: being more than a piece of furniture, rather a sculpture, therefore, it can perfectly fit into a living room with sophisticated antique furniture but will know how to live with the creations of its time as well as the present!
If you use the pair of white lacquered metal fireside chairs and the Sling bench by Bruce Hannah and Andrew Morrison for Knoll alongside it, their orange upholstery will be reflected in the round, flat steel walls of this bar table! This sculpture table will go wonderfully well with our pair of G10 armchairs by Pierre Guariche covered in peacock blue wool! the very taut lines of the design of these seats will highlight the volumes of the Domustil table!
On the walls, we are spoiled for choice: the pinks and browns of Charles Piquois’ diptych will bring their poetry to the whole room; while the very frank colors of the Composition by Edgard Pillet or the flat areas of the Rêve d’enfant tapestry by Daniel de Linière, will reinforce the sculpture side of our table-bar.
We can also successfully combine the steel of our table with the zinc and lead of the monumental sculpture Colonnes-1966 by Guillaume Leunens: two successful creations, with geometric universes full of beauty!
